Paint Party Friday

Lots of different things going on in the studio this week.

Some doodling I did with markers. I wanted to start using my markers more and I think I used every kind of marker here.  Aqua markers, Sharpies, Copic etc. I got the idea for sea urchins on Pinterest.  I like the idea of just repeating an image in various sizes and form.

A face in oil pastel. I created this on Fabriano hot press paper with Sennelier oil pastels. I am trying to get better at profile views. So its practice and more practice.

A tag with the theme board games. I used papers, cards and Faber- Castell gelatos and embellished with a chines coin.

Some work in my art journal. This is in my new journal. I used gelatos, tissue paper, paper scraps and more.  It was a fun page to do.  I love the quote by Van Gogh.

"I am always doing what I can't do
so I may learn how to do it."

That is my art journey in a nutshell. I want to do something so I try try and try again.

Don't forget to check out Paint Party Friday to see what others are doing today. There are often over a hundred people linking. There is bound to be someone who can inspire you?

Work in Progress

I haven't been feeling well as you know and have had the hardest time with this piece. My advice don't use spray ink over acrylic on canvas. When I tried to add the face the reddish ink popped through. I added several layer of titanium white paint. I sprayed on a workable fixative, used a heat gun, then tried gesso and zinc white paint. Nothing made any difference. I finally added old book pages over it and started over.

I started with the sketch from last year as a reference photo. I don't try to make it exact but use the sketch as just a guide.

This is an underpainting using just titanium white and paynes grey. A technique I am trying from Gritty Jane's class in Life Book.

Here is step 2, where I add color, there will be many more steps to come.  I had to stop for a bit.  I am headed to the hospital for my pre-op appointment. I will update this later.

Fantastic Video

Check out this fabulous video Sorry it wouldn't let me embed it so you'll will have to click on the link. A fabulous artwork in process using just pens and markers.

Getting back on the horse

I created this this page earlier this week when I was feeling a bit frustrated, fortunately it was a temporary thing. I have climbed back on the horse as they say.   I have learned not to stay down for too long.  It is like I need to have these moments of frustration so that the solutions can then present themselves.  I had an awakening of sorts after this last one. I am not totally sure of what I am doing right, but I now know what I am going to do next which is a great feeling.

This page was done with some Faber-Castell Gelatos for the background.  I added the birds and then stenciled in the misshapen circles and outlined them with gel pens and markers to give dimension. A few more doodles and I call it done.

I  started this little doodle weeks ago but could never decide if it was finished or not. Maybe it still isn't but I am calling it done for now. Do you have trouble deciding when a piece is finished?

I had gotten a few of these big brush markers by Faber-Castell and started playing with them on this doodle. It seems that no matter how many markers you have there are always other colors you wish you had. I bought 12 but that never seems to be enough colors for me.  I have been enjoying these full page doodles  I am not sure if I will cut them up for other pages and just leave them as is.  They might make fascinating postcards just as they are.

Have a great Mothers Day Weekend!
