Sunday Sketches
I have 2 sketches to share today. Both of these were created in church. The first, this young girl was created in a Stillman and Birn alpha series sketchbook in colored pencil. I am trying to get more comfortable in the medium. So that means practice practice and more practice.
This other one is also a little challenge I am making for myself. To get more comfortable drawing people. Church is a perfect place for this. I am just going to have to sit in a different spot now and then, or I will be drawing the same people. Tell me are you a creature of habit, do you always sit in the same spot?

Raven Comes To Call
My raven was drawn on grey paper with Prismacolor colored pencils. He is a little short and squat but I choose to think of him as puffed up. Posting for Sunday Sketches today. If you are part of that group I invite you to come back on Friday and share something for Express Your Creativity.

Sunday Sketches
This was another selfie exercise from Sketchbook Skool Bootkamp. The one on the left was from my imagination and the one on the right was looking in a mirror. I need to work on the eyes a little more. I think I got the shape of my face correct but the eyes are too round. I leave that for the next time I do a selfie this way. Posting for Sunday Sketches.

Sunday Sketches - A Mandala
I am getting ready to take the course Mandala Magic with Julie Gibbons. It starts on the 20th. So of course mandalas are on my mind. This page started with a face and I painted black gesso around it. Then I painted the whole page black which led to the idea of a black and white mandala. I started with a spiral and then just kept adding patterns. The drawing of this was very meditative. I used a Uniball Signo Broad white gel pen.

Sunday Sketches - A Hare
I felt the need to be sketching again. I am so out of practice. This little hare needed to come play today. Posting to Sunday sketches today. You can check out other sketches over here.

Sunday Sketches - Bringing Torin to Life
This is Torin, a character in the book I am writing. I am finding that drawing the characters to be very therapeutic.

A Colorful Doorway
For Sunday Sketches I decided to play with color. This doorway was drawn in pen and then I used InkTense pencils and water and then pen again.

Sunday Sketches
Decided that I could sketch during football games. This a window at Coventry Cathedral in the UK. I discovered that these are really hard to draw.

A Week in Yellowstone
We had a great time in Yellowstone, there are always beautiful views. This is Lamar Valley, you can sometimes see wolves and Grizzly bears here.
We saw lots of Big Horn Sheep, these are the females. I saw males too but never got a picture of them.
This is something I have never seen in the 30 years I have been going to Yellowstone. Ranger/cowboys herding buffalo across the road. That was quite cool to see.
Here I am on Dunraven Pass. They had just opened the road. As you can see the snow banks are a little high.
This is a cinnamon black bear.
This is Rosie the black bear with her three cubs.
I got around to doing a little art one night. Playing with paint and stencils and a bag of scraps led to this collage.
Its funny that I didn't realize there was that white line going down her face. Old book pages are always fun to draw on.
Back To Reality
Since getting back home its been a whirlwind of activity. We sold our trailer and bought a new one. I've been tying up all the loose ends for my trip out of the country. I leave for Ireland on Tuesday. I am taking along my iPad with the idea of blogging a little while I am there. I am not sure how long I will keep that up. If I think it is taking up too much time, I 'll postpone it until I get back home. So I will guarantee at least one blog post from the road. I may end up being more active on FB or Instagram so you might want to follow me there. There are links to do this in my sidebar.
For Sunday Sketches I drew some flowers in a small notebook I had in my purse.
The first page was just some random flowers.
Then I decided on a bigger flower and it became a zentangle. Sketching is always great fun. Check out what others are doing here

Sunday Sketches - Just Playing.
For today's post, I was just playing with windows and watercolors and shapes. Its not exactly what I had in mind but it engaged my creativity and was still fun.

Sunday Sketches - March 2
I've got three things to share today. They were all created at church today. It was a really long service.
First is my little baby elephant.
I did the color last week so added and extension to the left side of the page so I can now have the black and white and color versions. Its not exactly the same but it is representative so I am satisfied with it.
Then another face and words, I guess I can't get away from that on on Sunday.

Sunday Sketches
I saw something similar to these on the net so I had to give it a try. Making these rings was really satisfying.
First in black and white.
Then I added some watercolor. What fun this was to do.

Sunday Sketches
The hubby and I headed down to Pocatello a town an hour from here to have a Valentine lunch. We headed to McKenzie River Pizza Co. They are building one in Idaho Falls but it taking forever to open. So we headed south to go to the one that has just been built there. We became fans when our daughter was going to school in Montana. You can't get a good pizza around here so I was so excited when I heard they were going to build a location here.
While waiting for our food. I drew this woman in a small notebook I carry in my purse.
Then I put some watercolor on her.
Here is the pizza I had. Alfredo sauce, spinach, fresh tomato and chicken, it was so good.
They gave us a free dessert, that is red velvet cake with creame inside. Its too bad I had to share.
Afterwards I spent the night with an old favorite. That's Humphrey Bogart with the Maltese Falcon. Actually my cinema group met at my house for a showing of the 1941 classic. I love vintage films and this is one of the best. I watched this so many times as a kid with my parents, it reminded me of them so much. Good memories and fun times.

Sunday Sketches - Pencil and Watercolor
I took my inspiration from another artist who did something similar on Pinterest but I could not fine her name. There's was much more elaborate that mine. I liked the idea of just doing the hair in color and leaving the rest in pencil. I used Koi watercolors for the hair. Then I drew the patterns in with a micron pen.

Sunday Sketches - December
I haven't done any sketches for Sunday in awhile. I had my new sketchbook with me and no reference photos so this just came from my head, I think that my sketches are so much better if I have some kind of reference.
