Great weekend

I had a great weekend, on Friday we watched these guys practice. Yep the Blue Angels were in town. We actually saw the show from our driveway on Saturday. They flew over our house multiple times. It was pretty cool.

On Saturday morning Dave and I went kayaking at a local gravel pond which is like kayaking on a lake and I just loved it. We had the place to ourselves, just some shore birds and the two of us.  It was really present.    That evening I had a bonfire and last night I went drumming. with a group of women.  Lots of fun activities to round out the week.

My lovely sister Peggy sent me a convalescing package full of goodies. You can see them all on her blog Feminine Inspiration She gives all the details and what everything is for so I will just let her tell the story.

Today I will be anxiously awaiting for UPS to show up and deliver the gift from my hubby, Its something to entertain me while I recover from surgery. Oh now what could that be. Any guesses?

Yes its a kindle and I think its a pretty nice gift. I am looking forward to trying it out.

Kayaking and some insights

We went kayaking yesterday. We travel up to Market Lake often in the spring to look at birds and always thought kayaking there would be fun. The waterways are closed during the spring breeding season. Its an area that is a marsh with open waters and cattails and other vegetation. Sometimes you can come around an area an see waterfowl in their real natural state, it is pretty cool.

This was Dave's first time in a kayak this year and he was really enjoying it

We came across this muskrat, he was just swimming along eating some weeds. I eventually got too close and he went under water.

We saw many birds, mostly swallows which are hard to photograph. There were lots of ducks and we heard cranes several times before we actually saw them. They make this loud croaking sound and you find yourself saying 'what was that' till you realize its a sand hill crane making the sound. I was able to capture a pair in flight.

There was one time where the going was very rough and we were thick into weeds and you'd put your paddle in and you couldn't move more than an inch at a time. It was very hard on your arms. Dave kept saying don't put your paddle in so deep and its easier. So I would try that and wasn't making any progress. I kept reverting back to the way I usually paddle, which made it worse. He said he's go a head and made a trail of sorts but of course that didn't help me. I just wanted to sit there and not move. He was going in a straight line and off to the left I saw a section of more open water so I went that way and went around a section of cattails and met him that way. Then it was open water the rest of the way and a more pleasant time.

When I was doing my morning pages this morning I thought being stuck in those weeds is like being stuck artistically. No matter how much you try you are still stuck and feeling like you are going nowhere. You try the same thing over and over with no new results not realizing that what you need is to asses the situation and do something different. That is what I did out in the kayak and what I need to do in the studio. The Universe is so interesting sometimes. It can send you messages that you need to hear in the most surprising ways. Is there a message you have been missing?

The Joy of kayaking

Yesterday I had the most wonderful time. I got to do something I love but haven't managed to do in years. Either D and I have had health issues that prevented us from going kayaking and it seemed like this year was going be the same. So I said we could take my kayak to the pond and I could kayak while you watch the dog. He agreed so we headed out to Roberts Gravel pond which is about 20 minutes from our house and I made it into the water again.

Doesn't the water look beautiful. It was just like glass and the kayaking was oh so peaceful. It really felt like heaven to me. It was just me and the water and all the birds. It was so peaceful. A sand hill crane flew over the pond right in front of me. It was such a beautiful a sight to see.

Here I am closer up can you see that I am really enjoying myself.

Later that day we were in Rexburg looking at the trucks at the Toyota dealer and afterwords decided to see if we could find somewhere open for lunch. I told D that nothing would be open in Rexburg on Sunday. Rexburg is 30 miles from home and home of BYU-Idaho. It has a mostly Mormon population so nothing is usually open on Sunday. D saw this sign that said Diner so we thought oh there is something open.

At the front were these 2 gas pumps so I said 'no its just a gas station' and D says "it said DINER on the sign", we went in anyways and it did turn out to be a diner called Joe's Filling Station and the food was fantastic.

The walls were covered in old coke signs and gas station memorabilia. It was a fun place to find on a Sunday afternoon.

After Jenn Lee attended a workshop with SARK she posted the idea for this poster. I liked the idea so much I had to make my own. If you have never visited jenn's site Artizen coaching I suggest that you do. She has a great spirit and wonderful ideas.
