Lots of Art Going Around Here

I have been in the studio a lot this past week and weekend. I actually have more done than these but I haven't taken pics of them yet. I seem to be just in the flow lately and that has been wonderful. I am almost done with the paper bag journal I have been working in. I feel the urge to finish those last few pages. Maybe that will happen this week.

This background was spray painted previously.  I found this image of British School children and it reminded me of my own stint in a uniform.  I had attended Catholic school for the first 4 grades as a child.  I don't have many pictures from my childhood but did find this one that seamed to fit.  The writing was done with a dip pen and white acrylic ink.

This page evolved over a long period.  For awhile it was just the mermaid.  Then I was testing some rub-ons for another project and used this page.  The image of a woman drawing in the sand is a favorite. I thought I would try my hand at a poem for this page. Just a simple idea of what the woman might have been doing.

I started this in Sharon Tomlinson's class All about Faces.  It was a bonus video on layering many different napkins.  It was an interesting exercise but I didn't know what else to do with it. Then the other day I saw a women right in the page.  In this shot I just traced the lines that showed up. I was pretty excited about finding her and couldn't wait to get out the paints.

I am really happy with the way this turned out. I may have to try this on a canvas.

If at first you don't succeed

Here is my second attempt at doing a face for the class I am taking with Sharon  . This one was easier but I still made the face a little bit big for the tiny canvas we are using.  This is one of those cheap kids canvasses from Michaels.  I almost didn't have any space to add the  napkin embellishment. I had collaged an old page on top and didn't get it smooth enough so as a result her  nose has this blip in it.

A couple journal pages I did recently.  I seem to be drawn to yellow lately. This page really flew together easily.  I know its a bad pun but I couldn't resist.  After I put the birds on the page and looked in my paper stash everything seemed to flow.  I love how that happens.

This one is pretty simple after seeing this image I just looked for a color that seemed to set it off pretty well. I used pitt artist pens to write about color. That is it for today.

Friday's play

This is the art I did on Friday.  This was not what I had intended to paint at all.  Funny how that happens. I think her features are a little wonky because I kept changing things.  I was also trying to do blond hair and although its not perfect I do think she is blond so I consider this a success. I am going to keep on painting faces till I get them right. I signed up to take Sharon's aka All Norah's Art class on face painting. She does beautiful work so I am sure I will be learning something from her. I've been learning a lot from watching Zorana's videos. She has done a series of 3 so far on red rosin paper and they are pretty great.

It snowed again today, some spring we are having.  the good thing is it always melts fairly quickly. Hope you are having a great  weekend.

An award to pass on

My new writing friend from across the pond at The Wright Stuff awarded me this fun blogging award for my perseverance in the pursuit of my art and blogging. Oh what fun this is, now I get to pass it on to these other desereving blogs that I really love. They all inspire me whenever I go to their blogs.

I have been wanting to try doing a face using watercolor crayons after seeing Sharon's videos on the subject. I had all sorts of problems with the colors bleeding and so forth but this is my first try. Its done on muslin backed with interfacing. The eyes are lopsided and two sizes but I think it was a good exercise to do and I think the next one will definetly be better.
