Sunday sketches - 3 AM Art

Having insomnia lately. My first attempt at a PanPastel face, created in a Moleskine sketchbook. She sort of looks dreamy, that is because PanPastel doesn't take as well on the moleskine paper.  I am waiting for the acrylic ground for pastels to come in the mail.  If you use that the colors come out richer.

Check out Sophia's blog for more sketching.

  1. I have looked at pan pastels many times and wondered if I would actually use them. Looking at what you are doing with them is beginning to edge them up closer to the top of the list. :)

  2. Hello Kate, sorry to hear about the insomnia. Love your journal page, really beautiful face. Moleskin is a nightmare. Try painting gesso on your pages to beef them up. Pastels, watercolours etc work well on gesso.. :)

  9. somehow the little blur to the picure adds to the drawing, more dreamlike

I like how you draw the eyes, large and pensive.

    have a great day.

  10. I would recommend trying to take your photos in the daytime. Near a window. They will turn out more crisp, the colors will be brighter, and the image overall should not be blurry. This one is hurting my eyes to look at because it's blurry :(. However, the colors are gorgeous. :)
